History

Leaday Cemetery sits on a hill about a mile east of the old Leaday townsite in western Coleman County. The community grew from Rich Coffey's 1861 homestead near the mouth of the Concho River and was laid out in 1904, taking its name from ranch owners J.C. and Mabel Lea. When Stacy Reservoir was built, graves from the Gann, Coffey, and Trap Crossing cemeteries were reinterred here, and the cemetery's inscriptions were recorded in the 1988 'Coleman County Cemetery Inscriptions.'
