History

Sam Young, an Illinois pioneer, bought land in the Jacob Baccus survey in 1845 and established Young Cemetery in 1847 when his first wife, Patience Cornell Young, died; her grave is the oldest marked burial and the second-earliest known in Plano. The roughly one-acre cemetery near Young Branch holds veterans including War of 1812 soldier Thomas Finley (b. 1790). It was designated a Historic Texas Cemetery and rededicated in October 2009.
