History

Bush Cemetery in McKinney was begun in 1855 on the land patent of Major William Martin Bush, whose family settled here about that time; it is sometimes also called the Elkin Cemetery. According to an early McKinney newspaper account, the first person buried here was John Haggard Sr., who died in 1859, followed in 1861 by Dorinda Bush.
