History
Bowman Cemetery began in 1858 when pioneer John D. Bowman buried his daughter Julia Ann Bowman Russell on the family's Peters Colony land in what is now Plano, Collin County. Among those interred is Dr. Henry Dye, an early frontier physician credited with suggesting the name 'Plano' for the town, along with Confederate veteran and Plano National Bank president George W. Bowman, who died in 1921. The Masonic lodge deeded the cemetery to the city of Plano in 1989, and it is preserved within Santa Fe Park.
