History

Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake traces its origins to the Civil War era; an 1868 newspaper account describes a burial 'near the Lake, adjacent to the graves of the Confederate soldiers who died while encamped there during the war.' It grew into one of the town's largest cemeteries, with thousands of interments, and its southern section, long known as the Lakeside Latin Cemetery, holds mostly Hispanic graves.
