History

First Protestant Church in New Braunfels grew out of the German Protestant congregation chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1845, one of the earliest in the German colony. The present Gothic Revival stone church, with pointed arches, stained glass, and detailed stonework, was built in 1875; bells brought from Germany once called settlers to worship, work, and school. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
