History
Concho County lies in west-central Texas and takes its name, like the Concho River, from the Spanish word for shell. Its county seat is Paint Rock, named for the ancient Native American pictographs on nearby limestone bluffs. The county's landmark 1886 courthouse was designed in the French Second Empire style by brothers F. E. and Oscar Ruffini using locally quarried stone, and it survives as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
