History

Fletcher-Lane-Powell Cemetery is a small historic family and community burial ground within the boundaries of Fort Hood (renamed Fort Cavazos in 2023) in Coryell County. It is one of dozens of cemeteries that predate the 1942 creation of Camp Hood, when the U.S. government acquired more than 40 rural communities across southwestern Bell and southeastern Coryell counties and displaced roughly 470 farming families. The Army preserves these historic cemeteries on the installation and holds periodic visitation days so descendants can tend the graves.
