History

Elam Cemetery is a historic burial ground in the North Fort Hood area of Coryell County, within the Fort Hood (Fort Cavazos) military reservation. Like the other small cemeteries scattered across the post, it survives from the rural communities that existed before the U.S. Army established Camp Hood in 1942, an acquisition that forced about 470 families in Bell and Coryell counties to leave their land and, in many cases, relocate their dead. The military maintains these cemeteries and permits descendant visitation.
