History
The Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum grew from the vision of Zina Lamar, who launched construction in 1957 with backing from the Lamar Foundation. The 21,000-square-foot complex includes a replica of the Hank Smith House, the first permanent Anglo family home on the South Plains, along with wings devoted to Native American, ranching, and pioneer history. Its collection holds tens of thousands of artifacts, including archeological remains of bison and mastodon that once roamed the Staked Plains.
