History

Dr. Rufus Alston Roberts (1837-1906), a North Carolina native who settled in Cedar Hill in 1859 and served as a Confederate Army surgeon, built this ornate two-story home at 210 South Broad Street in 1884. The late Victorian "Gingerbread House," with jig-sawn porch work and stick-style brackets, included an attached office; Roberts also helped bring a railroad line through Cedar Hill. The house carries a Texas Historical Marker, is listed on the National Register, and now houses the Cedar Hill Women's Center.
