History
The Straus House at 400 Cedar Street in Cedar Hill was built around 1884 by E.E. Straus, the town's leading merchant, who had opened his dry-goods store there about 1880. After his death in 1885 the store was run by his wife and sons, whose extensive business and land holdings extended across southwest Dallas County into the twentieth century. The ornate two-story late-Victorian home was listed on the National Register in 1985 as part of the Cedar Hill multiple-resource area.
