History

The A.W. Perry Homestead Museum in Carrollton preserves the home of Peters Colony pioneers A.W. and Sarah Perry, who arrived from Illinois in 1844 and claimed 640 acres. The present house was built in 1909 by their son Dewitt Perry using lumber salvaged from the family's 1857 home; it was restored for the Bicentennial in 1976 and designated a historic landmark by the Texas Historical Commission in 1977. The museum interprets north-central Texas life at the turn of the 20th century, and the city completed a major restoration in 2025.
