History
Opal Lawrence Historical Park in Mesquite preserves a farmstead begun in 1874 by Stephen Decatur Lawrence, son of a Mercer colony settler, with the surviving Victorian house built in 1882 and expanded to a cruciform plan by 1886. Lawrence descendants lived on the property until 1995, when Opal Lawrence willed the house and land to the City of Mesquite, which added acreage to include the 1887 barn and outbuildings. The 13-acre site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a Century Family Farm.
