History

This marker records the site of a Confederate arms factory established at Lancaster in 1862 by Joseph H. Sherrard, John M. Crockett, and partners to manufacture pistols. The plant, operated as Tucker, Sherrod & Company, produced copies of the .44-caliber Colt Dragoon revolver for Texas and Confederate troops, delivering roughly 1,400 by late 1863. It operated until 1865. A Texas Centennial marker was placed in 1936.
