History
The Campus Theatre was built in 1949 by Interstate Theatres in Denton's Art Moderne style, designed by the Dallas firm Pettigrew-Worley and Co. with a tapered vertical fin sign and neon-trimmed canopy. Named for its location between North Texas State University and Texas Woman's University, it was one of Denton's first air-conditioned buildings and screened its first film, I Was a Male War Bride, that year. It closed in 1985, reopened as a performing-arts center in 1995, and was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 2009.
