History

The Saints' Roost Museum is housed in the 1910 Adair Hospital, built by Cornelia Adair for the cowboys and families of the JA Ranch, and it preserves the pioneer heritage of Donley County and the Texas Panhandle. Clarendon was founded in 1878 as a Methodist 'sobriety' colony, earning the mocking cowboy nickname 'Saints' Roost.' The grounds also include the restored 1887 Fort Worth & Denver City Railroad depot and a collection of Red River War materials.
