History

Citizens Cemetery lies about a mile south of Clarendon, the oldest existing town in the Texas Panhandle. When Clarendon relocated from its original site in 1889, some graves and a memorial were moved here; eleven headstones are inscribed 'Saints Roost Colonist 1878,' recalling the town's founding colony, and the earliest recorded death is 1885. A state historical marker was placed on July 4, 1938.
