History

Ramirez Cemetery serves the community of Ramirez in southern Duval County, on State Highway 339 along Cibolo Creek about seventeen miles south of Benavides. The town took its name from Jose Ramirez, a descendant of Rafael Ramirez, to whom the surrounding land was granted in 1856. By the mid-20th century Ramirez had a church, school and cemetery among its scattered dwellings, and the burial ground remains a record of this Tejano ranching settlement.
