History
The Ysleta Mission, in the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo within El Paso, is recognized as the oldest continuously operated parish in Texas, its origins tracing to 1682. It was established by Tigua (Tiwa) people who fled south with Spanish colonists after the 1680 Pueblo Revolt drove them from Isleta Pueblo in present-day New Mexico, and it was administered by Franciscan priests. The mission and its Tigua community remain a living center of faith and heritage on El Paso's historic Mission Trail.
