History
The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Cultural Center in the Ysleta section of El Paso interprets the culture and history of the Tigua people, the oldest federally recognized tribe in Texas. The Tigua are descendants of Puebloan people who were forced south from Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico, in the aftermath of the 1680 Pueblo Revolt. The center displays artifacts, pottery, photographs, and video representing more than 300 years of Tigua history, offers interactive experiences such as pottery making, bread baking, and storytelling, and provides retail space for tribal members, while hosting annual events including the May Pow Wow and the Feast of Saint Anthony.
