History
The Magoffin Home was built in 1875 by pioneer, politician, and civic leader Joseph Magoffin (1837-1923), son of El Paso founder James Wiley Magoffin. The nineteen-room adobe residence is a leading example of Territorial-style architecture, blending local adobe construction with Greek Revival detailing. Joseph Magoffin served as Collector of Customs, county judge, and four-term mayor of El Paso. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and is now the Magoffin Home State Historic Site; its historical marker was erected in 1962.
