History

The I. R. Allen House is a historic residence in Ennis listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 under the Historic Resources of Ennis multiple-property nomination. It dates to the era of prosperity (roughly 1890 to the 1920s) when Ennis grew rapidly as a Houston & Texas Central Railroad and cotton-processing town, and its Victorian-era homes clustered in the neighborhoods north and northwest of downtown.
