History

Ukrainian immigrant Simon Pytlovany, who arrived at Galveston in 1896, bought this land near Dubina in 1904 and built the house in 1909 in the style of a Ukrainian izba using large squared timbers. The National Register nomination describes it as probably the only house of its kind in Texas or the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
