History

Often called the 'Queen of the Painted Churches,' this Gothic Revival church in High Hill was built in 1906 to a design by architect Leo M. J. Dielmann for a community of German and Austrian immigrants. Its elaborately painted interior was created in 1912 by Ferdinand Stockert and Hermann Kern, who affixed painted canvas to the walls to resemble wallpaper. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
