History
Built in 1895 for a community of Czech settlers, St. Mary's on FM 1295 in Praha was the first Roman Catholic church between San Antonio and Houston. Swiss-born artist Gottfried Flury painted its ornate interior with trompe-l'oeil vaults and Gothic tracery, and some 12,000 people are said to have attended the church's dedication. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
