History
James Seaton Lester was an early Fayette County settler who fought at San Jacinto and represented the county in the First Congress of the Republic of Texas in 1836. He served as chief justice of Fayette County, was among the first trustees of Baylor University, and lived at Winchester until his death in 1879; the marker in La Grange was placed in 1936.
