History
The Freyburg Methodist congregation in Fayette County began in the late 1860s when circuit preachers held services in settlers' homes and stores. In 1877 Anton Kortlang sold six acres to the congregation for a church and cemetery, and a Gothic-style sanctuary was built in 1879. The oldest marked graves in the cemetery date to the 1880s; the Texas Historical Commission placed the marker in 1994.
