History

The Huckaby Cemetery is a small, very old family burial ground east of Fairfield in Freestone County, associated with the family of John Fuller Huckaby Sr. and Elizabeth Permelia Riddle Huckaby, who moved from Alabama to Freestone County in 1849. It holds the graves of two of their young sons, John Fuller Huckaby Jr. (1834-1853) and James W. Huckaby (1844-1852), marked by a single tall stone inside an iron fence. Most other members of the family are buried at nearby Fairfield Cemetery.
