History
The Old Frio County Jail in Pearsall was built in 1884 by the contracting firm P. J. Pauley & Brother of St. Louis, a two-story Victorian building distinguished by elaborately molded brickwork and thick plastered walls. Considered an excellent example of public Victorian architecture in rural Texas, it served as the county jail until the 1960s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and is also a Texas State Antiquities Landmark and Recorded Texas Historic Landmark; the building now houses the Frio Pioneer Jail Museum.
