History
USS Stewart (DE-238) is an Edsall-class destroyer escort laid down in 1942 at Brown Shipbuilding in Houston and commissioned on May 31, 1943. During World War II she made some 30 North Atlantic convoy crossings before transferring to the Pacific, and she is the only preserved example of her class. In 1974 the Navy donated Stewart, along with the submarine Cavalla, to Galveston for display, and she is now a museum ship at Seawolf Park. She is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
