The Texas Seaport Museum, operated by the Galveston Historical Foundation, is home to the 1877 tall ship ELISSA, a three-masted iron barque and National Historic Landmark. Built in Aberdeen, Scotland, ELISSA carried cargo worldwide and twice loaded cotton at Galveston before the foundation rescued her from a Greek scrapyard in 1978 and completed her restoration by 1982. One of only a handful of ships of her kind still able to sail, she serves as the official Tall Ship of Texas, and the museum tells her story alongside exhibits on Galveston's immigration and maritime heritage.
