History
The Bryan Museum, opened in 2015, houses the collection of J.P. and Mary Jon Bryan, one of the world's largest holdings of artifacts, documents, and art relating to Texas and the American West, spanning more than 12,000 years. It occupies the former Galveston Orphans' Home, designed by architect Alfred Muller and opened in 1895 as the Island City Protestant Orphans Home; badly damaged in the 1900 hurricane, it was rebuilt by George B. Stowe and reopened in 1902. J.P. Bryan bought the long-serving orphanage in 2013 and restored it before opening the museum.
