History
This Galveston marker commemorates Catherine Isabel Cox Sherman, wife of General Sidney Sherman, a hero of the Battle of San Jacinto. Born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on April 27, 1815, she married Sherman on that same date in 1835 and raised a large family with him in Texas, including at their home near the San Jacinto battleground. She died on January 20, 1865, having suffered heavy family losses during the Civil War, including a son killed at the Battle of Galveston; the State of Texas erected her marker in 1936.
