History
The Williams Creek School, also called the Albert School, was established in 1891 as a log cabin and rebuilt in 1897 as a one-room limestone building in what is now the ghost town of Albert, south of Stonewall. Lessons were taught only in German until World War I, when state law required English instruction. A young Lyndon B. Johnson attended eighth grade there during the 1920-21 school year. Now a community center, it was named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2002 and listed on the National Register in 2005.
