The adjacent national historical park was established in 1969 and protects Johnson's boyhood home, birthplace, family cemetery, and the 'Texas White House,' where he spent much of his presidency. The state park side features the Sauer-Beckman living-history farm, which portrays German-Texan farm life, and enclosures with bison and longhorn cattle.
