History

La Bahía Cemetery grew up beside the chapel of Presidio Nuestra Señora de Loreto de la Bahía, which was relocated to the banks of the San Antonio River in 1749. It has served as the burial ground for the Spanish-speaking community of La Bahía since at least the 1830s and remains an active cemetery, with grave markers dating to the mid-19th century. The Texas Historical Commission erected a marker in 2008.
