History

Augustus H. Jones (born Georgia, 1813) came to Texas in 1835 and took part in several early actions of the Texas Revolution, including service with Ira Westover's Matagorda Volunteers, the Lipantitlan Expedition, and the Siege of Bexar. A soldier, stockman, and planter, he was elected by Gonzales County to the House of the Ninth Congress of the republic, serving from 1844 to 1845.
