History

Belmont, now a Gonzales County ghost town on the old San Antonio road, was once a stage stop and trading point before the railroads bypassed it and its population dwindled. Its cemetery reflects the segregation of the era, with a separately maintained Belmont Black Cemetery adjoining the main grounds.
