History

Denison merchant George Braun commissioned local architect-builder John B. McDougall to design this 8,000-square-foot Italianate-Victorian residence, built about 1882-1883 in a style Braun had admired in St. Louis. German carpenters and a Bavarian woodcarver executed the ornate interior millwork and fireplaces. Braun died in 1903 and the house stayed with his widow, Minna, until 1919. Listed on the National Register in 1975, the mansion was relocated in 2000 from its original downtown lot to a hillside site north of Munson Park, where it survives as the Braun Manor.
