History

Grayson College operated for about twenty-five years in Whitewright, in southeastern Grayson County. The campus grew out of the community's 1880 public school building, which H. L. Piner and James F. Anderson purchased in 1885 intending to found a college; they secured a charter for the coeducational Grayson College two years later. Enrollment peaked at 740 in 1904, but a fire that year destroyed most of the facilities, and the college closed permanently in 1912.
