Grayson County College was organized in 1963 through the Grayson County Development Council, sold its first bonds in 1964 under founding president Cruce Stark, and opened an eight-building campus in Denison in September 1965 with roughly 1,479 students. In 1971 it acquired part of the former Perrin Air Force Base, whose buildings became its West Campus. That campus also carries on the grape-breeding legacy of Denison horticulturist T. V. Munson through a memorial vineyard and a viticulture and enology program. The college shortened its name to Grayson College in 2012 and later added a South Campus in Van Alstyne.
