History

This burial ground is one of the historic cemeteries at Pilot Grove, a community in eastern Grayson County founded in the early 1850s and originally known as Lick Skillet before being renamed in 1858. Pilot Grove was the flashpoint of the Lee-Peacock feud of roughly 1867 to 1871, a violent Reconstruction-era conflict between ex-Confederate Bob Lee and Unionist Lewis Peacock that spread across the corners of Grayson, Fannin, Collin, and Hunt counties. The adjoining Old and New Pilot Grove cemeteries hold many of the area's pioneer families.
