History

Cherry Mound Cemetery is tied to the Cherry Mound community on Farm Road 1753, about ten miles northeast of Sherman. Settlement there began in the mid-1850s when the David Cherry family homesteaded on a rise overlooking the surrounding countryside, giving the community its name. Cherry Mound supported a school, a church, and a scattering of farms and businesses well into the 20th century, and its cemetery holds the graves of those early settlers and their descendants.
