History
Preston Bend Cemetery near Pottsboro serves the historic community of Preston (also called Preston Bend), a Red River frontier settlement that grew up around a trading post established by Holland Coffee and Silas Colville about 1837. Preston was an important river crossing and rowdy frontier town until the original townsite was largely abandoned by the 1870s, after which a more centrally located Preston community with general stores, schools, churches, and a cotton gin persisted into the twentieth century. The burial ground is maintained today by the Preston Bend Cemetery Association.
