History

The East Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore College recreates the discovery and boom of the East Texas Oil Field, the largest oilfield within U.S. boundaries, which followed C.M. "Dad" Joiner's 1930 Daisy Bradford gusher. Visitors walk through recreated 1930s towns with dioramas, films, and antiques donated by area residents. The museum also displays 1941 New Deal murals by Xavier Gonzalez, moved from the Kilgore post office in 1999.
