History

The Abernathy Cemetery in Hale County, also known as the IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Cemetery, lies on the northwest side of Abernathy along County Road 325 about seven-tenths of a mile west of Interstate 27. Organized into thirteen sections, the well-maintained grounds hold more than three thousand burials, including a documented Confederate veteran, and span from the town's early 20th-century settlement to the present.
