History

Shive Cemetery holds many of the pioneer settlers of Shive, a Hamilton County community settled in the 1870s by Lewis Paullin and others. The town was named for Robert Shive, who became its first postmaster when the post office opened in 1884; German families began arriving the following year. A Texas state historical marker stands across the road just west of the cemetery.
