History

The Museum of Hardin County occupies a two-story brick building in Kountze that was constructed shortly after a 1916 fire and served as the Hardin County State Bank until it failed in 1925. Various businesses used the structure over the following eighty years until the Hardin County Genealogical Society purchased it in 2009, renovated it, and opened the museum in May 2013. Displays of artifacts and photographs tell the story of Hardin County, with the old bank vault providing archival space and the second floor housing the county historical commission.
