History

This house on Cortlandt Street lies in the Houston Heights, a suburb platted in 1891 by the Omaha and South Texas Land Company as one of Texas's first master-planned communities. Cortlandt is one of the Heights's original north-south residential streets, and the neighborhood developed rapidly during its years as an independent city between 1896 and its 1918 annexation by Houston. The property is one of the residences individually listed on the National Register under the 'Historic Resources of Houston Heights' multiple property submission.
